"Curriculum defectum" - A CV of professional failures
Academics are doomed to deal with failure and rejection. I failed more than I succeed. Nobody likes rejections, but they are intrinsic to life—the academic life in particular. At first, failures are hard to accept and move on from; but then we put them aside and forget. Not keeping track of our failures can have negative implications—we may give the false impression to others that our professional trajectory is only made of successful events; and we ourselves forget how much effort we have put into our professional life at the expense of our personal endeavours. Below is a quick exercise where I tried to remember (some of) the failures in my short career as a scientist
